What types of governmental organizations does Nisivoccia work with?
We serve a wide range of public-sector clients, including municipalities, school districts, county governments, libraries, joint insurance funds, and other authorities. With experience working with over 200 governmental entities, we understand the unique operational, compliance, and reporting challenges you face.
What makes Nisivoccia different from other government auditors?
At Nisivoccia, we don’t take a transactional approach – we build long-term partnerships. Our philosophy, known as The Nisivoccia Way, is centered on proactive communication, education, and year-round support.
Rather than only engaging during audit season, we act as trusted advisors – helping you navigate challenges, stay compliant, and operate more efficiently throughout the year.
Are you available year-round, or only during audit season?
We are available year-round. Governmental entities face ongoing challenges, so our team is always accessible to provide guidance on compliance, budgeting, regulatory updates, and unexpected issues.
This consistent support is a key part of The Nisivoccia Way.
How do you help reduce audit stress for municipalities and school districts?
We reduce audit stress by staying engaged year-round and preparing clients well in advance. Our approach includes:
- Ongoing communication and proactive guidance
- An annual “Preparing for Your Audit” seminar for School Business Administrators
- Regular roundtables and training sessions
- Clear expectations around timelines, documentation, and requirements
This preparation makes the audit process smoother, more predictable, and far less disruptive.
What audit services do you provide to governmental entities?
We provide a full range of audit services, including financial audits, Single Audits, compliance audits, and internal control reviews.
Our goal is not just to issue an opinion, but to help you improve processes, strengthen controls, and better understand your financial position.
What is a Single Audit, and when is it required?
A Single Audit is a combined audit of financial statements and federal program compliance. For fiscal years beginning on or after October 1, 2024, a non-federal entity that expends $1,000,000 or more in federal awards must have a Single Audit or, where permitted, a program-specific audit. The $750,000 threshold applies to fiscal years beginning before October 1, 2024.
How do you support newly elected officials and new financial leaders?
We provide hands-on support and education to help new leaders succeed. Each year, we host a Newly Elected Officials event after election season, bringing together new officials, experienced municipal leaders, and our professionals for open discussion and practical guidance.
We also support new CMFOs, administrators, and school business officials with ongoing education and direct guidance.
Do you provide ongoing education and training opportunities?
Yes, education is a core part of how we serve our clients. Throughout the year, we offer:
- Annual “Preparing for Your Audit” seminar
- Quarterly CMFO Roundtables with guest speakers and relevant topics
- Additional roundtables and discussions on emerging issues
Many of these programs offer continuing education credits and provide actionable insights you can apply immediately.
How do you help clients stay compliant with changing regulations?
We closely monitor changes in governmental accounting and auditing standards and provide real-time guidance.
Through ongoing communication, training, and advisory support, we help ensure you understand what’s changing, how it affects you, and what actions to take.
Can you help with budgeting and financial planning?
Yes. We assist with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and long-term planning to help you align resources with priorities while meeting regulatory requirements.
