Kickstart 2025: Strategies to Engage Donors Year-Round
January 23, 2025
Start the Year Strong
2025 is here, and there’s no better time to build a plan for year-round donor engagement. While the holiday season may see a surge in giving, keeping your nonprofit top of mind throughout the year can ensure consistent support. Here’s how to kick off 2025 with strategies to keep donors engaged:
Improve Visibility
Donors give for many reasons: some are inspired by compelling stories, others by a sense of community, and some by a timely nudge. To ensure potential supporters know you want — and need — their contributions, consider the following:
- Focus on a Theme or Goal: Create giving campaigns with a clear purpose, whether it’s tied to a participatory theme (like the ALS Association’s Ice Bucket Challenge) or a specific goal, such as funding a new program or initiative.
- Leverage Recurring Giving Opportunities: Encourage donors to commit to monthly or quarterly giving, creating a predictable revenue stream for your organization. Highlight how consistent giving creates long-term impact.
- Check Your Records: Review your donor database to identify supporters who have given regularly in the past. Segment your records by gift size, frequency, or interests to tailor your outreach and inspire repeat contributions.
- Share Your Stats: Use analytics and infographics to keep stakeholders informed and motivated. Regularly update your website or campaign pages to highlight progress toward your fundraising goals and celebrate milestones.
Be Prepared
A seamless donation experience can make or break your fundraising success. Test your website’s donation page to ensure it’s easy to navigate, secure, and optimized for mobile users. Your site should:
- Load quickly and operate without errors.
- Provide donors with an immediate thank-you email and receipt for tax purposes.
- Highlight matching gift opportunities, offering clear instructions for donors to take advantage of their employers’ programs.
Engage with Matching Gifts: Most companies that offer matching gift programs donate at a 1:1 ratio, and some go as high as 4:1. Provide clear instructions to contributors on how to request matches, and set up automated follow-ups for donors who may not have completed the process.
Learn and Grow
To maintain momentum throughout 2025, document your successes and challenges. Reflect on what worked in past campaigns and use those insights to refine future strategies. Successful nonprofits are always learning and adapting.
