The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of experience in tax area and tax notice resolution, with a CPA or Enrolled Agent. This role involves managing and resolving tax disputes.

Position Summary

The Tax Controversy Manager works directly with clients, firm’s partners, and staff in resolving tax notices for various entities and individuals. The ability to professionally handle sensitive/confidential information is a must. Potential candidates for the position include knowledgeable tax managers who no longer wish to work long hours of tax season.

Responsibilities

• Handle and resolve tax notices from federal, state, and local tax authorities for individuals and entities.
• Assist in representing client in tax audit, examinations, and appeals.
• Handle abatement process of federal and state penalties. Going to Federal or state tax court is not required.
• Develop and implement strategies to manage tax controversies and minimize tax liabilities.
• Interact with internal and external clients, including correspondence via email and phone calls.
• Manage and organize staff in tax controversy area to efficiently respond to notices.
• Work effectively, manage time, and meet deadlines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the partners, principals, directors, and senior managers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• CPA or Enrolled Agent certification is required. No law license is required.
• 7-10 years of experience in tax
• History of delivering excellent service to clients
• Strong verbal and written skills.
• Experience working with federal, state, and local tax authorities responding to tax notices preferred
• Familiar with IRS, New Jersey and other state processes for abatement and appeal of penalties preferred
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and in tax software is a plus.
• Strong leadership and team management skills
