Governmental Entities

As government auditors, we don't view our role as adversarial.  Our goal is to help you remain compliant and to be a resource throughout the year, not just at audit time.

"Education is a key component of working with our government clients," according to Valerie Dolan, Nisivoccia Partner.  We don't just prepare an audit, but take the time to teach our clients what they need to do to be compliant."

It might sound cliché, but our clients consider us trusted advisors. They come to us with problems and we listen without charging for every minute of communication. While we are auditors, our goal is to find solutions, not mistakes. This means we always side with our clients to help save them time, money, and operate more efficiently. Open dialogue is a standard offering and part of the Unparalleled Support that is The Nisivoccia Way.

As part of our proactive style, we closely monitor changes in government and accounting regulations and provide guidance on how to adapt to them. Whether we are working with a school district, local municipality, a county, authority or joint insurance fund understanding how governments work is part of the value we bring to our clients.  If our phone starts ringing with questions about a surprise notice that our clients have received, we spring into action to research the details and reach out with information about how to proceed. Our approach is to partner with you and educate you, 365 days a year, not just when it's time for an audit.

Having worked with over 200 government organizations, our expertise runs deep. We are familiar with the unique challenges you face and can offer insight based on real experience. However, our insight doesn’t just come from our internal team members. Through our quarterly CMFO Round Tables, we bring municipal financial leaders together to share ideas and learn from each other. From how to handle complex financial transactions to grant submissions this format provides a forum for practical advice and the sharing of ideas.

Our team of recognized thought leaders actively participate in events for tax collectors, school board administrators, and CFOs. Getting out there and having ongoing conversations with municipal and educational leaders helps us stay tapped into what keeps you up at night.  This insight, combined with our deep understanding of how governments operate, drives our value-added services like reviewing budgeting processes, internal controls, and fraud studies.

How We Are Different

Proactive Stewardship

Educating our clients is not an afterthought, it's part of the experience. Nisivoccia offers a quarterly round table meeting with CMFOs to share ideas and learn from each other. These roundtables allow financial leaders and administrators to pool resources in a forum that benefits everyone. We also host an annual summit for school district business administrators. For newly elected officials, our annual seminar provides education on financial responsibilities and how to better understand the financial information they are entrusted with.

Advising governmental entities requires nimbleness and attention to the changing landscape. As part of Proactive Stewardship, Nisivoccia actively monitors changes in government and accounting regulations and provides hands-on guidance on how to adapt to them in real-time.

- School Board Client

"I have been in contact with your team a lot this past week or so wrapping up the audit, was there most the day yesterday and saw them at lunch today. I wanted to take a few minutes to let you know what a pleasure it has been working with them. They are both beyond professional, polite, very easy to talk to and understand what they were asking for. So many people only reach out with complaints, think it's important to give positive feedback too."
